A scene in the Selerang prisoner-of-war camp in the early days of captivity. There was no water laid on for the first year at Selerang and all ablutions were carried out at improvised water-points, and showers from pumped up out of a sub-surface drains that carried off the heavy rains. These drains ran right through the camp and were partly fed by seepage water. The man on the left is pumping the water into the tank on the stand. Note the bundles of lalang grass strewn aroung in leiu of bath mats.
