The night before Karkar Island landing
Description
QX6239 Major E.G. Green, commanding "B" Company, 37/52nd Australian Infantry Battalion, always saw that the lads broke the monotony by arranging sing songs among themselves. Besides the community singing, lads would also give solo items. The beam of a torch would be put on to the lad as he gave his item. Private "Steamboat" Russell (Coy aid post) was the humourist of the Company , is seen here in this sketch reciting as Major Green acts as compare. The scene depicted is that of the sing song conducted on Sarong Passage Beach the night prior to the landing of Karkar Island at 6.30am, New Guinea, 2 June 1944.
