HQ, 2/9th Australian Infantry Battalion
Headquarter 2/9th Australian Infantry Battalion at McCullogh's Post at the foot of Shaggy Ridge. "A", "D" and "C" Companies were on top. "A" Company attacked along the top of ridge and a few days later, Battalion Headquarters shifted up to Prothero at the other end of the ridge. Sketch shows weary troops at Battalion Headquarters. In the foreground a soldier is seen returning from the Ridge. The cookhouse is on the right. Meals were served out-side as shown. Local native carriers rested at this point after bringing supplies from Guy's Post. From here they would take supplies on to the forward companies. Troops would sit on benches, eating and resting, or sit on the ground as shown. A stretcher case just brought down from the ridge is being given a drink of coffee before being taken to the Regimental Aid Post. Orderlies can be seen in the RAP. In the distance is the Faria Valley, leading up to the main stream at the foot of Shaggy Ridge, New Guinea.
