Mines landscape, Mt Isa
Description
Hard spinifex-tufted ridges were rich in minerals essential for war. First zinc, and lead - then copper for wartime usages, had transformed an isolated belt of western Queensland into a modern hive of industry. A neat cluster of mine buildings, a long-legged haulage shaft, an aggressive chimney stack, partly hide from view a hot sprawling town-ship while far out on the horizon is seen a flat-topped wall of mauve coloured hills.
