Description

On the uppermost bench in one corner of Mount Morgan's great open cut, an electric shovel loads a truck with ore, while in the background the Lilliputian figures of miners hang by ropes over the sheer sides of the mountain to lay their explosive charges. The centre of the mountain has been gouged out and during the past, has yielded rich deposits of gold. The wartime yield has produced two thirds copper to one third gold. When the artist showed one of the miners this painting he commented: "you should see this cut after rain to get all the colours.
