Townsville looking towards Mt Stewart

Townsville, during the war years, was the scene of feverish activity; the wharves were always occupied with ships loading supplies for the islands or embarking troops for those area, and the airfields in the vicinity were the taking off grounds for operational missions over the islands or for Transport Squadrons flying troops and war materials to the forward areas.
