Hoisting British, American, Dutch flags over Changi
Description
This is the last sketch official war artist Murray Griffin completed whilst he was interned at Changi. Drawn shortly after the liberation of the camp in August 1945, it shows the hoisting of British, American and Dutch flags over Changi jail by Allied internees. In the background, American Lieutenant Miles Barrett is hauling on a rope beside British Colonel Edward Barclay Holmes MC (standing), who was in charge of the British and Australian troops at Changi. The officer in the foreground seen from behind is Dutch Colonel Van Den Hoogenbrand.
