Description

The making and repairing of metal food containers for use by the prisoners. The prisoners in Changi established a workshop within the camp to produce most items, such as shoes, artificial limbs, cooking equipment, needed by the men. With almost 15,000 Australian soldiers initially interned in Changi, the requirements for all manner of equipment was a pressing need. By the time Changi was liberated in 1945, there were approximately 5,000 AIF remaining in the camp.
