Description
Depicting three of the various stages of soap making in the Changi prisoner-of-war camp, by prisoners with improvised equipment. Extreme left; many washings of wood ash to produce potassium carbonate. Centre; Potassium carbonate boiled with lime to produce caustic potash. Right; Evaporated to make a strong solution.
