On guard
Description
Australian soldier standing sentry at an encampment. This work was produced as part of the artist's Syrian Campaign series. The artist writes, 'On guard - Typical scene at any Australian camp between Gaza and Qastina - a sentry on guard on the tarmac, near the entrance to the lines'. The campaign involved Australian troops, mostly from the 7th Division, fighting alongside allied troops against the Vichy French in Syria and Lebanon.
