Acre - Australians passed this way!
Description
Acre - Australians Passed this Way. The bay and town of Acre through which Australian troops passed during their advance towards Beirut. It was in this ancient town that the Armistice Convention was arranged at the Sydney Smith Barracks on 12 July 1941. In the foreground beneath the trees, are mute and empty witnesses to the fact that Australian soldiers paused here for a rest, a cooling draught and a smoke.'
