Description

Depiction of building and grounds at the 9th Division's Camouflage Training Unit at Alamein Station in July 1942. The 9th Division stayed behind in the Western Desert after the withdrawal of most Australian troops from the area for redeployment in the Pacific theatre. A single building is surrounded by temporary barbed wire fencing which is partly pulled down. The building's front wall has 'Alamein Heaven' written on it. A shirtless soldier leans on a fence post at the right. The drawing was made by Whiting and inked by Taylor, possibly for reproduction in the AIF News.
