Among the poppies
Description
The crumpled body of a young fallen soldier lying near a tree amongst a tangle of poppies. He lies with arms outstretched, his slouch hat and rifle abandoned on the grass beside him. This work is one of a series of illustrations published by Penleigh Boyd in 'Salvage - Pictures and Impressions of the Western Front' (1918). Boyd served in the First World War as a sergeant with the Australian Electrical and Mechanical Mining and Boring Company (AEMMC).
