Australian serviceman
Description
This statuette is a maquette originally made to assist with raising money for the relocation of Ewers 'Australian serviceman' sculpture from the Hall of Memory to the Memorial grounds, showing Ewers' new plinth design. There was a scheme to sell multiples of these statuettes to the general public through the Memorial shop, as a similar scheme operated quite successfully in the late 1940s and 1950s with other small Ewers statuettes. This maquette for the Australian serviceman was to be cast in batches of 10 with a maximum of 100 being cast. This work is the master pattern from which the others were cast.
