Anzac, watering horses
Description
Watering horses at Anzac. Nolan stated in an interview (13 April 1978) that horses in the 'Gallipoli' series relate to Homeric mythology rather than the actual Gallipoli story - the Homeric soldiers were horse breakers and great warriors.
This work was presented by Sidney Nolan, along with 251 other Nolan's from the 'Gallipoli' series, in memory of the artist's brother Raymond who drowned in 1945 on his return from military service at the end of the Second World War.
