'Saddle-me-nag', Anzac soldiers at play
Description
Anzac soldiers engaged in a game of 'Saddle-me-nag'. When the soldiers at Gallipoli were able to get a moment away from the trenches they would often let off steam by playing games letting them forget for a few moments the grim reality of life at Gallipoli. Games of cricket and football were played as well as schoolboy games on the beach as shells flew overhead.
The artist stated in an interview of 13 April 1978 that the image relates to the playfulness of the soldiers relaxing as shown in the Anzac book.
