[Gallipoli landscape IV]
Description
Gallipoli landscape with cliffs. The cliffs are evoked through Nolan's use of mottled and striated patterning. Although these landscapes hold their own beauty, the colours are quite harsh reminding us of the difficulties the young Gallipoli soldiers faced the other side of the world.
The work was presented in memory of the artist's brother Raymond who drowned in 1945 on returning from military service at the end of the Second World War.
