[Eight Gallipoli figures in shell-burst]
Description
Eight naked Gallipoli figures amidst explosion. Nolan stated (interview 13 April 1978) that this work and those related to it were done at the time he was working on the decor of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" at Covent garden. The idea of the figure formation was gained looking down at the dancers on stage from the wings above. It is almost as if the battle is a dance of death.
