Sketch for storm - Canberra airfield
Description
This work is a preliminary drawing in crayon for another artwork in the Memorial collection 'Winter storms over Canberra airfield' (ART21384). This work depicts Dutch aircraft and presumably pilots, who were involved in coastal patrols. There was a strong presence in Canberra of Dutch air-force during the Second World War following their evacuation from Indonesia. As with most of his artworks, Curtis' main interest lay in depicting technology and as a result the aeroplanes are drawn with careful detail, while the figures around them are depicted through vague lines.
