Description
Depicts a seated Australian soldier, wearing shorts and a tin helmet heating the bayonet on the end of his rifle in a small camp fire, while another standing soldier, holding a rifle and smoking a cigarette, looks on in amazement. Joseph Francis Garvey (b. 1912) was a commercial artist, cartoonist and illustrator. He enlisted in Victoria in 1940 and served during the Second World War as a Private with the 2/32 Australian Infantry Battalion in northern Australia, Labuan and Morotai until his discharge in November 1945.
