Lend a hand on the land
Description
British Second World War recruitment poster for voluntary agricultural camps. The design features bold text with solid bands of colour framing the lettering, emphasising the instruction to 'Lend a Hand on the Land'. The first letters of 'Volunteer Agricultural Camp' are each embellished with small figures carrying farming tools and harvesting the land.
In the face of wartime labour shortages, citizens at home were petitioned through magazine illustrations, advertisements and government information posters to contribute to domestic services and industries. This British poster encouraged citizens to contribute to the wartime production of food by working at an agricultural camp.
