Tighten your grip
British Second World War poster by Frank Newbould issued to help increase war production. Modernist in design the poster features an oversized pair of black tongs squeezing an orange Nazi swastika. The title text is positioned top right and is taken from a BBC radio broadcast given by Winston Churchill on 9 February 1941, aimed at President Roosevelt. In this speech Chruchill argued that Britain had the proven will to fight fascism, however it lacked the tools. He intimated that he hoped these tools would come from the United States. The expression 'Tighten your Grip', was aimed at Roosevelt.
Another poster in the series, using the same imagery, used the slogan 'Give us the Tools and...'. Aimed at those working in the factories and on war production the posters where broadly circulated throughout the country.
