Bring him home sooner...Invest in the First Victory Loan
Poster issued by the Commonwealth War Loans Office to promote the First Victory Loan (28th March - 9th May 1944) which followed on closely after four successfully subscribed Liberty Loans. The target set for the First Victory Loan was one hundred and fifty million. On announcing the loan Prime Minister John Curtin stressed to the Australian public that the emphasis was to be on the word 'First' rather than 'Victory' and there was to be no premature rejoicing. He also indicated that there was likely to be a Second, Third and even Fourth Victory Loan campaigns.
This poster combines the general slogan chosen for the campaign 'Speed the Victory' with a photograph of the head of a young Australian soldier. It urges the viewer to 'Bring him home sooner' through their investment. The text and image are integrated and both set against a bright blue background and framed within a white border.
