Description

Five unidentified convalescent soldiers sitting in the grounds near the entrance gate of the Mena House Hotel, which was taken over for use as 2 Australian General Hospital (2 AGH) early in 1915. In June 1915 the hospital staff were transferred to Gezira in Cairo. Australian troops underwent training at the camp at Mena, ten miles from Cairo, before sailing to the Gallipoli Peninsula. Looming in the background is the Great Pyramid of Cheops at Gizeh.
