A group of unidentified members of the 4th Field Ambulance at the Virgin's Well at Matarieh ...
Description
A group of unidentified members of the 4th Field Ambulance at the Virgin's Well at Matarieh (Mataria), about 10 kilometres north of Cairo. Christian tradition attributes the presence of a spring here to the visit of the Holy Family during their flight into Egypt. The soldier second from the right is wearing sergeant's stripes on his sleeve; the soldier on the far right has a bandaged hand. The soldier wearing a light coloured shirt and shorts is possibly a Gurkha. An Egyptian guide is standing in the background.
