Description

A group of unidentified men of the 6th Brigade near the entrance to the B8 tunnel in the trenches on the Gallipoli Peninsula. In the centre is a periscope, which one of the men is using to observe the Turks. The man standing at the back and facing the camera has the initials SB on his slouch hat, indicating he is a stretcher bearer (this also appears on his armband) , and the word Colac. It was known for men to indicate their home town on their hats to informally identify themselves to other men from the same place.
