Informal portrait of two 1st Battalion officers, both of whom later attained the rank of major, and were killed in action during the third battle of Ypres in the autumn of 1917. Identified left to right: Lieutenant John Bruce Buchanan, who died on 12 October 1917; Lieutenant Philip Llewellyn Howell-Price, who later won the Distinguished Service Order and the Military Cross, and died on 4 October 1917.
