Description

Major Sam Butler, an intelligence officer at Anzac Corps Headquarters (HQ), leading a blindfolded Turkish envoy, Major Kemal Ohri, to General Sir William Riddell Birdwood's HQ. Major Ohri was sent to negotiate an armistice to allow the Turks to bury their dead after their attack on Anzac positions on 18-19 May, 1915. More than 3000 Turks and approximately 169 Australians died during the attack. A nine hour armistice was arranged for 24 May 1915. The officer wearing the turban is Lieutenant Colonel L C Parker CO, 7th Indian Mountain Artillery Brigade, and the officer standing alongside him is one of his battery commanders.
