Description
Local boys seated on a cart outside the grounds of the Chateau at Fricourt, before it was destroyed by artillery barrages during the First World War. Situated on the northern side of the Somme River in France, the village of Fricourt was captured by British forces in July 1916. It was the site of a staging camp for Australian troops moving to the front during the Somme battles of 1916. (Copied from a French postcard.)
