Description
An unidentified soldier lying amongst the ruins of a building at Longueval, on the English front, whilst aiming his rifle into the battlefied at right. Longueval was the scene of furious fighting in 1916, lasting from 14 to 29 July, when the village was cleared by the 5th Division. It was lost in March 1918, and retaken by Commonwealth forces on 28 August 1918. (Copied from a French postcard.)
