Description

The original graves of two Australian officers killed in action on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The graves are of Major Walter White Ellis (left), second-in-command of 13th Battalion, and of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) George Frederick Braund, Commanding Officer (CO) of the 2nd Battalion. The inscription on Lt Col Braund's reads: 'Lt Colonel G F Braund, VD, commanding 2nd Battalion, AIF, killed in action May 4, 1915.' Lt Col Braund came from Neutral Bay in Sydney and was a Member of the NSW Legislative Assembly. He was accidentally killed by an Australian sentry when he failed to respond to the sentry's challenge.
