Description

Original graves on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The white cross on the far left is marked "In memory of Lieut W. H. Dawkins 2 F. C. Engrs Age 22 Killed 18.5.15 in action" (note that the Roll of Honour card for Lieutenant (Lt) William Henry Dawkins, 2nd Field Cmpany Divisional Headquarters, notes his date of death as 20 May 1915). The grave beside is marked "In memory of Major C. H. Villiers Stuart 56 Rifles Frontier Force Killed in Action 17 May 1915". Major Villiers-Stuart was an Indian Army Officer, who held the post of Intelligence Officer in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Note the photographer's shadow in the foreground.
