Description
The bodies of three Australian soldiers killed in the portion of the German 2nd line which was held throughout the night by the 5th Australian Division during the Battle of Fleurbaix which was fought on the 19 July 1916 and 20 July 1916. This site might have been a first aid post set up during the battle as indicated by the bandages on the two bodies at right, and the fact that their shoes have been removed. This image is one of a sequence taken by an unknown German officer that were given to Captain C Mills 31st Battalion AIF, after the Armistice in 1918. A wounded Captain Mills had been captured by the Germans during the battle.
