Description

Collection relating 422350 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Ronald (Ron) Henry George Parker, RAAF, 106 Squadron, RAF, 1943-2000. It includes a postcard and small photograph style letters written by Ron Parker to his family, correspondence between Mrs Di Patane, Parker's niece, and the surviving member, Robert Dack, of Parker's crew shot down on 31 March 1944 during a raid over Nuremberg. There are also maps, photographs and a personal account of the aerial attack by Robert Dack.

History / Summary

Most of this collection was generated through Mrs Di Patane seeking information about the circumstances of her uncle's death. There is some correspondence to her, responding to a letter she wrote to the magazine 'Fly Past' providing her with information about the planned raid on Nuremberg in general and more specifically about the crash that resulted in Parker's death. The personal recollections of Robert Dack, RAF, contain information on several missions including Berlin, 24 March 1944, Essen, 26 March 1944 and Nuremberg, 31 March 1944. The letters written by Parker are dated 9 and 20 September 1943 and addressed to his grandmother, Mrs T J Parker and Miss Beryl Parker.
