Group portrait of C Flight Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) NCOs on their graduation from a sergeant's course held at the Administration School, Wilmslow, England from 28 June to 19 July 1944. Identified is 2018560 Leading Aircraftswoman (LACW) Joyce Foll (second row on extreme left). During her wartime service, LACW Foll served with Bomber Command where she met an Australian airman, 434219 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Colin G Berrill, a wireless operator and air gunner of 189 Squadron who was also serving with the RAF. On their subsequent marriage, she accompanied her husband on his return to Brisbane, Queensland where he had earlier enlisted for overseas service in 1942. Many other young British women also married Australian men who served in Great Britain during the Second World War. These new brides settled in Australia and became part of a generation whose life was also influenced by the war. Joyce Foll was one such war bride.
