Description

Papers of 424240 Flying Officer Alan Frederick Wailes relating to his Second World War experiences in the Royal Australian Air Force. The collection includes a memoir written by Wailes in 2001 entitled 'Life in the armed services 1942-1945' and describe his experiences as a Wireless Operator and Air Gunner with 8 Squadron RAAF. There is a logbook, March 1943 to April 1945, covering his training in Australia including at Cootamundra, Nowra and Bundaberg and his active service in the New Guinea area, including Wewak, Maprik and Maschu Island. Wailes kept a diary between 1 January 1945 and 17 May 1945 briefly listing his daily activities.
