Silver war badge : Private R Gardner, 25 Battalion, AIF
Silver War Badge with impressed serial number 'A25149' on reverse. The badge is circular with the words 'FOR KING AND EMPIRE SERVICES RENDERED' around the rim, and a voided cypher and crown of King George V in the centre. The reverse has a hinged vertical pin clasp. The badge is in the original box of issue.
Awarded to 5340 Private Robert Gardner of 25 Battalion, AIF. Gardner, from Brisbane, Queensland, was working as a draper at the time of his enlistment on 9 February 1916. He sailed for the Western Front on the troopship A50 'Itonus' on 8 August, 1916 and returned to Australia on 20 December 1918. The silver war badge was awarded to officers or men who had been retired or discharged on account of age, wounds or sickness that rendered them permanently unfit for further service.
