History / Summary

Name badge worn by N222874 Flight Officer Gaynor Tilley, Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service. Born in Hyde Park, South Australia on 2 May 1941, Tilley served in Vietnam from 14 July 1966 until 8 January 1968. Tilley was one of 106 nurses from the RAAFNS who served in Vietnam flying on Aero Medical Evacuation operations. For a eight week period in 1967 she also served on detachment with the United States Air Force as part of the 902nd Aero Medical Evacuation Squadron (AMES). Part of the 315th Air Division, the 902nd AMES was based at Clark Air Base, Philippines. During the period 1966-1971 30 nurses from RAAFNS flew operations with the USAF AMES on single attachments which lasted 8 weeks. These evacuations flew into Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Formosa and the Ryuka Islands.
