Description
Studio portrait of two privates. Left to right: 2296 Private (Pte) Donald William McTavish, 4th Reinforcements, 22nd Battalion, of Horsham, Vic; and 1246 Private (Pte) James Leas Shaw, D Company, 29th Battalion, of Horsham, Vic, aged 44. Pte McTavish enlisted on 24 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915. He was killed in action on 27 July 1916 at Pozieres, France. Pte Shaw enlisted on 12 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ascanius on 10 November 1915. He returned to Australia on 8 April 1917. See also DA11122, DA11129A and DA11129B.
