Chaplains Ernest Northcroft Merrington (left) and Alfred Charles Plane, and Lieutenant James Martyn Clerke (later Major, 3rd Light Horse Brigade), seated above a wharf on the Nile. The masts of feluccas are visible immediately behind them, and the hill overlooking the Valley of the Kings can be seen in the distance, on the far side of the Nile.
