Description
Australian poster issued by the Commonwealth Government to promote subscriptions to the Diggers' Loan. The poster features a white map of Australia in the upper right corner set against a red background. In the middle of the map is a drawing of the head of a smileing returned digger. He is wearing a slouch hat without any military bands or badges visible. The title and text printed in black and white are positioned centre right.
The Diggers' Loan, officially launched outside the Commonwealth Bank, Martin Place, Sydney on 8 August 1921, was the third and final peace loan to be held in Australia following the end of the First World War. It was used to fund the building of homes for returned soldiers and to assist with their resettlement.
