Description

Seven diaries written by 528 Sergeant Robert J Noble, who served with 5 Australian Division Mobile Veterinary Section, Australian Army Veterinary Corps, in the First World War. The diaries, 1915-1919, document his service with 5 Division after its establishment in Egypt and his daily entries describe his work on the horse lines which were frequently targeted by German artillery and aircraft, particularly those attached to artillery batteries. The diaries commence with Noble's enlistment in October 1915 and conclude after the Armistice in August 1919, with details about his service with the 5th Machine Gun Battalion, post-war service in England and appointment to the Education Service of the AIF, as an instructor for Agriculture.
The diaries have been transcribed and published as "War diaries of a veterinary sergeant : 20th October 1915-10th October 1919" by Robert Jackson Noble and transcribed and edited by James C. Noble, which can be located in the Memorial's book collection at F355.345092 N747w.
