Tonks, Phillip M (Trooper, b.1944 - d.1992)
Description
Letter written in March 1968, by Trooper Phillip M Tonks, 3 Cavalry Regiment, to family members during his service in Vietnam. Tonks describes an operation his unit was to be involved in the day after the letter was dated, noting that there was a large number of Viet Cong trapped in the Long Hai Hills. He also writes of the air support provided by B-52 bombers and US Navy Destroyers. The mountain range and Niu Dat are marked on a map printed on the writing paper. Other items in the collection include two newspaper clippings, with an interview given by Tonks in July 1968.
