Captain Phil Pyke from the Joint Public Affairs Unit (JPAU) of the Australian Defence Force, on night piquet duty at the Presidential Palace North. The photographer took this image using night vision equipment borrowed from the Joint Public Affairs Unit. The night vision equipment amplifies ambient light, which is invisible to the human eye, allowing troops to conduct operations in darkness. The palace compound was the location for the Australian National Headquarters (ASNHQ).
