HMAS Adelaide Wallet : Chief Petty Officer John D K Radley, RAN
Small black leather wallet with the words 'H.M.A.S. ADELAIDE' printed on the front in gold lettering. Attached to the top of the right panel is a small leather tab with a brass eyelet. Inside the wallet are two plastic pockets.
Associated with the service of 13592 Chief Petty Officer John Douglas Key Radley who served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1922 to 1946. Radley was born in Bristol, England on 6 September 1903. He enlisted on 3 November 1922 and served in HMA ships Brisbane, Melbourne and HMAS Canberra, and the shore establishment HMAS Penguin, where he was rated Chief Stoker on 23 May 1935. Radley was posted to serve in the 'Chatham' Class light cruiser HMAS Adelaide on 28 August 1939. While Radley was aboard HMAS Adelaide she operated as a convoy escort on the Australia Station and was awarded Battle Honour 'Pacific 1941-42' in recognition of her work as a convoy escort on the Pacific region. HMAS Adelaide was also present at the landing of the free French governor in Noumea in September 1940. Radley was later posted to the corvette HMAS Wagga. He was discharged on 25 March 1946 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He died in 1987.
