Description

Brown leather satchel case with two extendable carry handles at its top. RAAF wings and the service number '415180' is painted in white on both sides of the case. The case closes by zipper, with two sliders that both have leather tabs attached. When opened, the case is lined with leatherette and has two wallets on either side for carrying documents. One of these wallets has three small leather toggles on its front for carrying pens / pencils and still holds an original pencil in one. The wallet on the other side of the case has two small rectangular pockets on its front, possibly for carrying cards or other small items. The owner's name and details have been handwritten on the inside in black ink and read: 'E. RANSOM. 415180 / Perth W.A. / 1941'.

History / Summary

Associated with the service of Flight Lieutenant Eric Ransom. Born in Perth, WA in November 1915, Ransom worked as a manager in a electronics factory prior to his enlistment with the Royal Australian Air Force in July 1941. He served in the Pacific theatre of operations, flying Catalina and Seagull sea planes with 9 and 43 Squadrons. He was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant in February 1944 and was discharged from service in February 1946.
