139866 Flying Officer Alexander Craig-Smith (back left) and staff at the Brisbane headquarters of the model making section. The models are made to the exact scale by using aerial mosaics and maps of the area and are used by the commander in chief (General Blamey) and his staff for planning operations. Flying Officer Craig-Smith commanded the Central Interpretation Unit, AIF, which had sections in Brisbane, Morotai and Lae.
