History / Summary
This medal was issued to Trooper (Tpr) Neil Craig Gillies of Dulwich Hill, NSW. Tpr Gillies enlisted in the Second AIF on 31 August 1943 and served with the 2/9 Commando Squadron in New Guinea. He died of wounds on 24 May 1945 in Aitape, aged 27 years. He is buried in the Lae War Cemetery.
