Collection relating to Quex Park Red Cross Territorial Hospital and Quex Park Museum
Description
Collection of photographs and postcards related to Quex Park Red Cross Territorial Hospital, Birchington-on-Sea, East Kent, and the Quex Museum. The majority of the collection is comprised of postcards of taxidermied African animal exhibits from the Cotton-Powell Museum. It also includes a small number of views of the buildings at Quex Park. The museum's founder, Percy Powell-Cotton, frequently travelled to Africa collecting specimens for his natural history museum, one of the first of its type to display animals in dioramas that replicated their natural environments. During the First World War, buildings on the site were employed as the Quex Park British Red Cross Territorial Hospital.
