History / Summary

Violet Bertha Lloyd and Alan William Glover were married on 7 June 1941, five days after Alan enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force. After a period of training, Alan served with 2/4 Anti-Tank Regiment in Malaya. He was captured as a prisoner of war of the Japanese in early 1942, and died on 6 June 1942. Violet was unaware of her husband’s death until December 1944. She worked as a foreman in the Shell Shop at Maribyrnong Munitions Factory until the end of the war.
